Ventnor Fringe: Bach at Bonchurch

The Pianist Vikingur Olafsson commented how Bach is pure structure and that it is up to the performer to illuminate the stucture in their own way. Bach and Churches are like marriages in themselves, as both have beautiful architectural structures. Bonchurch Old Church hosts Bach in a re-imagining of his Inventions and Sinfonias, intimate pieces with character and too often consigned to the role of minor pieces.

In fact, these are actually minature stories, with wit, playfulness, yearning, passion and wonder. Jewels if played with imagination and flexibility, and I hope to bring just that to this performance. You won't hear a period performance with trills and baroque like affectations, rather a fluid and spontaneous feel to phrasing to characterise these masterpieces.

I hope Bach would approve, progressive composer that he was, and I hope you enjoy!
