Often called the greatest of all the romantic ballets, Peter Wright's production of this classic will be a performance not to be missed.First performed in Paris in 1841, Giselle became an instant hit, not only in Europe but also Russia and the United States, spreading at an incredible speed. Part of the ballet's success was down to the sharp and beautifully staged choreography, while another part was due to the heartwrenching and deeply romantic storyline. The Giselle of the ballet's title is a peasant girl who dies of a broken heart when she finds out that her lover's attentions are being directed elsewhere. It's not quite the end for Giselle just yet though, as a group of supernatural women, named Wilis, who have the ability to dance men to death summon Giselle back to life to take her revenge on her cruel-hearted lover. Will Giselle take her revenge on the man who treated her so badly or is her love strong enough to save him and rekindle in him the love he once shared?
