My Boy Jack

On the eve of the centenary of the armistice, FHODS presents 'My Boy Jack’, by David Haig.  The devastating true story of Rudyard Kipling’s patriotic determination to send his son John to war - despite his severe myopia - to fulfil an heroic destiny; which leads to bitter family conflict and an all-too-common tragedy.  The sumptuous comfort of Batemans in East Sussex juxtaposed with the visceral horror of the Western Front perfectly encapsulates a world on the brink of dramatic change.

This is the play from which the 2007 film starring David Haig, Daniel Radcliffe, Carey Mulligan and Kim Cattrall was adapted.

Contains very strong language and realistic depictions of warfare.
