Litfest'22 | My Sand Life, My Pebble Life A memoir of a childhood and the sea, Ian McMillan

Ian McMillan is a poet, journalist, playwright and broadcaster who Times Education Supplement dubbed ‘the Shirley Bassey of performance poetry’. He’s been a castaway on Desert Island Discs, poet in residence for The Academy of Urbanism, Barnsley FC & Lockdown Poet and resident poet at English National Opera. He presents The Verb on BBC Radio 3 and has appeared on Coast, BBC Breakfast, Pick of the Week and Last Word. In the recently released My Sand Life, My Pebble Life -  A memoir of a childhood and the sea; Ian recalls his days by the sea, from Cleethorpes & Scarborough to Northumberland & Blackpool & the Isle of Skye.

Filmfest'22 | We Too Together, Deborah Hadfield

Join film and television Director Deborah Hadfield for a special screening of her latest feature film, We Too Together, which was filmed in the grounds of Repton School. Deborah has already won over 45 international awards for its profoundly moving portrayal of autism and PTSD. The screening will be followed by a Q&A featuring both Deborah and members of the cast.

Award winning film maker Deborah Hadfield who has an extensive background in TV and broadcast journalism for ITV, BBC Radio and Al Jazeera will engage Hilary Benn MP in conversation. Hilary Benn served in the Cabinet for over seven years and subsequently as Shadow Foreign Secretary. He is the Member of Parliament for Leeds Central and comes from a family of deep political pedigree. Deborah will be encouraging him to share insights from his years of political service on the national and international stage.

FILMFEST'22 | WRITING FOR THE SCREEN, NICK WHITFIELD

Starting out as a writer/performer in theatre, Nick Whitfield’s writing attracted the attention of the film industry, and he’s been writing screenplays under commission since the late 90s. As an actor and director, he is known for Skeletons (2010), Rebecca (2007) and School for seduction (2004). Nick will share insights from his career, particularly in relation to writng for the screen.

Filmfest ’22 presents Pitch Perfect, a golden opportunity to pitch your film project to a panel of industry professionals, and to network with fellow creatives.

A panel of industry professionals will hear your pitch and offer feedback, assessing all elements from the appeal of the project itself to the quality of the pitch. This will be a   great opportunity to get your idea out there to see what people think of it, to practice your pitching skills and to make some great industry connections.

Litfest'22 | Ukraine is our home. Andrey & Ksenia Yakutin

Andrey Yakutin is a professional videographer with direct experience of the war in the Ukraine including the Donbas region where he operated as a news camera man. He and his daughter, Ksenia, will share their experiences of the last few years that have taken them from Donbas to Ashbourne. All proceeds from this event will be donated to the Ukrainian Appeal of The Theo Trust which was established by Richard Theobald, the former Headmaster of Foremarke (Repton Preparatory School) and which facilitated the Yakutin family move to the UK.

LITFEST'22 | 12 HOURS TO SAY I LOVE YOU, OLIVIA POULET AND LAURENCE DOBIESZ

Olivia Poulet and Laurence Dobiesz are writers and actors based in London. Married for six years, they have written together for radio and screen. 12 Hours to say I love you is their first novel described by Sara Pascoe as  'Hilarious and heartbreaking, a rollercoaster you won't want to get off'
Radio and screen writing includes #blessed, a comedy drama love story which was ‘Pick of the Week’ for BBC Radio 4. Their short film, Deliver Me, won the Special Jury Award at the 2020 London City Film Awards.
As an actor, Olivia is known for THE THICK OF IT, IN THE LOOP, BACK, DOC MARTIN and HOLBY CITY. Laurence is best known for playing Alexander Randall in OUTLANDER.
Outstandingly entertaining this is a session not to be missed.

James Ellson is a former police officer (finishing as a Detective Inspector at Moss Side in Manchester), now a writer and speaker. His debut novel The Trail was published in 2020 and the sequel Cold Dawn is due out in August. 
Real Cop, Literary Cop is a  talk about his twin careers of detective and crime writer, including an analysis of the components of crime fiction (from plot to point of view to protagonist)
